I am writing to you today from the city of São Paulo, the morning after my solo concert at Casa de Francisca. Everything is still very present in my body, throbbing, every song, every applause, every hug. It was a magical night, with a full house and many special (re)encounters for me. At the end of the show I met a faithful reader of this newsletter, who told me she always reads everything and keeps the month's recommendations with affection. I also met another person who told me that my music has accompanied many changes in her life for at least a decade. We hugged, both of us moved. I signed the Movimento LP for a man named "Isaac", with two a's and a c at the end, and after telling him "what a beautiful name" he replied "you said the same thing the last time I saw you here at SESC in São Paulo". Very coherent, my taste. :)

The Casa de Francisca is still standing in the center of São Paulo, a fascinating and very tough place too. While I was singing in the beautiful centennial building, the monument for music in São Paulo for many decades, outside in the street dozens of families were sleeping, in tents, on cards, on corners, out in the open. São Paulo is a harsh but also sweet city, welcoming and also cruel. The contradictions of such places are so explicit, so explicit that sometimes they become transparent, a non-issue. As the song says "it's so much that nobody knows who did it". This vagabond world (“mundo vagabundo”), this world of ours, all crippled, all broken, it is necessary to fix it. We must not give up on fixing the world.

I was recently reading "Ideas to postpone the end of the world", by the thinker and indigenous leader of the Krenak people, Ailton Krenak, and he reflects how for the indigenous peoples a certain world ended back in the 16th century with the contaminated arrival of the Portuguese and the Spanish. Still, and despite everything, many of these peoples resist to this day. I think that we have a lot to learn from them about existing and resisting. One of the ideas that touched me the most in Krenak's speech was the idea that as long as we can tell one more story, we are postponing the end of the world. This is a navigational map for creators.

We need to listen to these voices. We need to listen to the river and the mountain. Listen to the concrete. Mountains and buildings are collapsing everywhere, and the worst response will be to pretend we don't see it. It's not just about the future anymore. It's about today. About our own ruins, about political indifference, about chronic disagreement, about social fracturing, about the ecological bill and the red numbers of history's debts.

We need to listen. Retreat. Reconcile. Heal. Dream. Personally, I'm trying.
